Old technology meant lots of steel.  That's heavy.  A small lift truck was the right answer for this job.  As it enters the building in search of its prey, it passes the KNX main transmitter, the Continental 317C.

The right-hand cabinet is the first to go.  That lift truck driver was able to waltz in between equipment and never touch anything except the object he sought out.  We watched the process like hawks and were not disappointed with the skill of the driver as he maneuvered massive weight around restricted spaces.  There's no substitute for experience!

Finally out the door, the first cabinet is on its way to a flatbed truck for removal from the site.  The next cabinet comes through the door a little easier as the crew is developing a system for moving these massive blocks of weight.

The final cabinet, heaviest at near 2400 lbs, is prepared for removal.  With the other cabinets gone, we've got a little more space to work with and are feeling more confident.
Finally exiting the area, the crew seems relieved.  This was a big job.

Now we've got the space we need for the DX-50.  After some clean up this vacant area will be home to our new transmitter.  There's still plenty to do, but we're confident as we anticipate the arrival of new equipment in a few days.  The DX-50 transmitter will become KNX's new main transmitter, replacing KNX's Continental 317C, now in service.

On the left we see the existing audio and control equipment cabinets near the entry to the transmitter building.  The lift truck will soon be leaving after a busy and a well accomplished job.

To the right, we get one last glipse of the GE BT50 cabinets as they're about to be loaded onto a flatbed truck for their final journey.  We bid farewell to nearly 40 years of reliable service to KNX, Southern California, and Western America, recalling how well the GE BT50 transmitter served us, right up to its disconnect this very morning.
